Venetia Diamond Mine

Venetia Mine

South Africa's largest diamond mine — 25 minutes from camp.

Venetia is the single biggest diamond producer in South Africa. If you're here for a project, rotation, or shutdown, we're the quiet base just down the road.

The Venetia Diamond Mine, operated by De Beers, is the country's largest producer of diamonds and the reason many of our guests find us in the first place. We sit 30 km south-east of the mine gate on a quiet private farm — close enough to shorten your commute, far enough that you actually rest when you get here.

Why contractors choose us

Shift workers need two things a hotel can't always give: a proper night's sleep and a kitchen to cook what they want, when they want. We offer both. Chalets are private, the WiFi is reliable, laundry happens on long stays, and the gate stays secure 24/7. Weekly and monthly rates on request — tell us the roster length and we'll quote accordingly.

The drive

About 25 minutes door to door on tarred road, mostly quiet bushveld two-lane via the R572 and R523. Wildlife crossings are real — kudu, warthog, and the odd leopard especially in the pre-dawn hours — so drive the sunrise shift carefully. Most guests leave camp around 5am for a 6am start, and are back by dusk for a braai and a beer on the stoep.

Venetia Underground — the next 20 years

Venetia transitioned from open-pit to underground operations in 2023, a $2.3 billion investment that extends mine life to at least 2045. De Beers moved first production from the underground ore body in August 2023, and the operation ramps up through the current decade. That means a steady flow of engineers, mining contractors, safety teams, and project personnel through the area — and a steady demand for quiet, private, flexible accommodation close by. We've hosted Venetia teams on and off since 2019.

What's near the mine gate

Essentials are in Musina (40 min east) — full supermarkets, fuel, medical, car service. Alldays (45 min west) is the sleepy alternative if you want a weekend pace. Fuel at the R572/R521 junction. Nothing on the mine road itself after the gate, so stock the chalet fridge before the first shift — our kitchen can help with cooked breakfasts and packed lunches if you'd rather not cook.
